My StoneAge cab was ordered with four of the Heritage G12-65s. Man, I can't wait to get that cab now.

I've got 2 in a Marshall 800 combo (1981?). I love the sound but they tend to be bright in the open back cab. I also have nothing but single coil pickups on my guitars so that may lend to the brightness ! I just swapped one of them for a Re-issue Greenback and it really "rounds out" the sound of the amp, so they may work well with the blue also !

The Rola Celestion G12-65 is not a bright speaker. Its highs are very smooth and warm and us usually described as a bit brown and darkish. I had an 83 JCM 800 with these speakers and thought that the combination was extremely well balanced. I think you might have your treble or presence up too high.

I agree. I have a pair of 75's that are well broken in. VERY!
They are not harsh at all.
I have a 4x12 loaded with them...and they are very broken in. They sound more like 65's than 75s. Just based on tone alone, I could easily sell the cabinet for more $$$ than if I admitted that they are 75's.
With that said, I have 2 4x12s loaded with 65's and I love them!!!

Yeah, I have 4 originals and they have some Greenback honk to them.....
I think they would be great if you like that greenback tone but only have a 1x12 or 2x12 cab with a 50 watt or higher amp driving it.

I have a pair in my Stone Age 2 x 12 and they are my favorite pair of speakers for both glassy clean tones and searing overdrive. For me they were the best all around speaker. I tend to like V-30's for high gain tones, but like Greenies or Jensens for clean tones. The G12-65's was the best compromise for both types of tones. I found the break in period to be a bit longer than the other speakers I have used. They seem to just keep getting better and better...I bought them about 9 months ago.

This is a great thread with gobs of information. Sounds like the G12-65 is a great speaker.
I am trying to decide what to pair with my V30: a G12-65 or a CL80. Running an EL34 shiva through an open back Bogner OS 2x12. Anyone A/B these?
I spoke to Sean at Bogner a couple of years ago and he told me that quite a few of their customers combine the V-30 with a G12H30 and they love the combination. I heard that Sean is no longer there, but I remember having many enlightening conversations with him over the years I used Bogners. I had both the EL34 and 6L6 Shiva heads and prefered the 6L6, but both amps sound awesome!

Hi everybody !
I have a 5150 cab that's loaded with 2 g1265 and 2 G12M (soon to be replaced by 2 V30.
How would you put the g1265 and the v30? in X? I was thinking about putting the g1265 on top.
What do you think?

The 2 65's that i pulled out of Paiges cab were the 8ohms version. I was hoping they would have been the 15ohms bersion, but hopefully, there's not much difference.

Hello old thread. I just found a Rola G12-65 in my Dr. Z Zbest cabinet (paired with a g12h30). I don't know a damn thing about these speakers. Are they worth much? I was thinking I might take it out and install a Vintage 30 or Greenback... It doesn't sound bad though. I was simply expecting to hear a different tone from the cabinet with my Z amps. How can I tell if it is a "Heritage" G12-65?

Some one had good taste! The pairing of a G12H-30 and G12-65 is hard to beat IMO. Bob

Nice thing about the G12-65 compared to a lot of other speakers in general is its ability to de-fizz high gain tones. Just messing with some speakers in my collection and swapping them around it my high gain Ultra 112. The G12H-30 accentuated fizz(at least until the power section starts saturating and thats not what Im looking for). Tonespotter did also. The WGS ET-65 had less fizz but still too much for what I was looking for.The G12-65 is the very much the opposite. It really tamed the fizz. Sounded great at band practice last night too. Great choice if your high gain amp is sounding a bit fizzy IMO. Bob

The ET65 is better than the overpriced Celestion 12-65. Less fizz and way better price.

Of course, you've tried both. Different strokes, different folks.
As for price, I've seen a couple go for 100.00 lately on the bay. Sweet deal.

Interesting observation-cant say Ive found this to be so though. I like the ET-65 because it has a bit more fizz than my Heritage G12-65. Something I sometimes like/need with certain amps. The G12-65 is a high gain fizz killer. I like both but Ive really come to appreciate how nicely the G12-65 tames a high gain fizziness. Go figure. I have an old 65 and just got an Egnater cab with Elite 80s. The Elite 80 is a classic 80 with a tad more lower mids for greater thump in small cabs. Celestion makes them for Egnater. To me the 80 is like a 65 with a bit more oomph to it. The highs are not as smooth as the 65 but that could be due to the fact my 80s are new. In my experience, the only speaker I've had that mated at all with a 65 are my Scumnicos. Other than that, I've never liked the 65 mated with anything other than another 65. But that's just me.
BTW, I'm not really using my G12-65 anymore so if anybody needs one, shoot me a PM.
